Miami Grand Prix Has Landed

Aviation has been playing a huge role in Formula 1 championships, giving the ability to travel to different cities around the world in a few hours; Something that F1 is taking complete advantage of to bring accelerating experiences to its fans. The sport uses every way of transportation to move all equipment, this is where aviation becomes the key player. A few days away from the Miami Grand Prix, we want to share more insights into this great event.

Visual Approach

The US is welcoming back Formula 1 and the Miami circuit is in the spotlight in 2022. As the race finished a week ago at Imola Grand Prix, Italia, logistics partner, DHL,  packed non-essential equipment to ensure everything arrives in Miami on time. After an approximately 16-hour flight, the DHL cargo planes which bring the cars and other equipment are arriving at their base at Miami International Airport.

Air Travelers have open sky to land at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Int'l Airport, just 20 minutes north of Miami International Autodrome, and from the sunny Las Olas Beach.

Aircraft owners, as some drivers and executives, work with aviation entities such as Login Aviation to plan trips and land at less congested airports, such as Opa Locka Executive Airport. OPF is a very popular airport among south Florida aircraft owners, not only because of its exclusivity but also because of its wide range of Top-notch FBOs. It’s also only 15 minutes away from the circuit. This is the best option for the teams that own jets like the American Team Haas. Multiple teams have partnered up with prestigious charter companies such as NetJets to fly their drivers for longer distances.

The Event

On May 3rd, Grand Prix essentials equipment will first arrive at the Miami International Autodrome on Tuesday. The rest of the equipment will arrive the following day. By Thursday, May 5th, everything is all set up for when the team members and drivers arrive for press conferences and team briefings.

Drivers, technicians, engineers, and others, will join the “Track Walk”, a F1 tradition where they get valuable data like the wind speed and operational sequences. Race weekend begins with practice on Friday, May 6th with two practice sessions and qualifying on Saturday. Race Sunday finally arrives, Engines start at 3:30 PM EST, and let the best driver win!

Once Miami Grand Prix 2022 comes to its conclusion, aircraft are cleared to take off to the Spanish Grand Prix, in Barcelona, Spain.

Sport Without Perimeter

For the next 6 months, races will be taking place from different continents. FIA, Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile, has been able to program races gradually throughout the years thanks to the private, commercial, and cargo aviation, providing the ability to successfully move equipment and teams in short amounts of time.
